Homecoming proves sweet for Pioneers

David Crockett High School’s homecoming Friday hit all the right notes. After the queen and her court were crowned, the honor guard from the school’s ROTC program performed sharply and the band played, it was time for the football team to take the field against Morristown East.

The Pioneers did not disappoint. Led by prolific quarterback Ryan Burger, the team put up 40 points on the Hurricanes. Burger’s favorite target of the evening was receiver Eric Day, who tallied five touchdown receptions. Crockett prevailed 40-29. The Pioneers now stand at 4-4. They host Tennessee High Friday and travel to Daniel Boone Oct. 30 for the Musket Bowl.

Earlier in the evening, a large crowd at Pioneer Stadium witnessed the crowning of Lorissa Eggers as homecoming queen. The junior princess was Emily Lewis, the sophomore princess was Reagan Miller, and the freshman princess was Chloe Cradic.
