United Way teamed with Food City to host the eleventh annual Celebrity Bagging Event last Tuesday.
Celebrity Bagging is an annual fundraising event hosted by Food City on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. During Celebrity Bagging, volunteer celebrities bagged groceries for a short length of time at one of the 28 Food City locations across the region and collected tips to benefit each store’s local United Way. Shoppers made contribution to their local United Way at the checkouts, via collection containers; or they can elect to have their contribution conveniently added to their grocery total.
Steve Smith, president and CEO Food City said, “Each year, we partner with our local United Ways to invite ‘celebrity’ volunteers throughout the region to give of their time and talents to bag groceries at participating Food City locations. We are excited to report that working together, we raised nearly $30,000 – thanks to the tremendous efforts of our celebrity volunteers and local United Way staff, combined with the generosity of our loyal Food City customers.”
All donations will benefit area United Ways that fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community.
