Five local leaders were honored for their community service during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer breakfast, which was held last Saturday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

Curtis McCloud of WJHL News Channel 11 served as the master of ceremonies for the event and Rev. C.C. Mills of Friendship Baptist Church in Greeneville made the keynote address. Herb Greenlee, supervisor of the Carver Recreation Center, welcomed the attendees and provided some closing remarks. A few young people offered their reflections on the wisdom of Dr. King, and the Central Baptist Church Choir performed.

“Our theme is really pursing the dream, the dream we started years ago,” Greenlee said. “We’re trying to make something happen for our youth and for the betterment of our community. That’s what it’s all about.”

Becky Buchanan, Rev. C.H Charlton, Faye Rutledge, Mark Sirois and Michelle Treece were honored with awards during the event.
