The Little League regular season has wrapped up in Johnson City. Last Thursday, Johnson City Major rivals the A’s and Cubs clashed in a game captured by News & Neighbor sports photographer Bart Nave. For the second straight week, Nave found himself at a tightly contested game that went into extra innings.
It was also a contest that showed the sportsmanship Little League is meant to inculcate in its young players. When the A’s made a pitching change in the eighth inning with the score tied 4-4, the move was protested as outside the rules. As officials considered what to do, an A’s parent discovered in the rule book that the change had indeed constituted a violation and the team voluntarily forfeited.
The city tournament, featuring teams from the American, National and Major leagues, begins Monday.
