Ridgeview eighth grader Gavin Crowder recently won the Region 1 wrestling tournament and was chosen to the Region 1 All-Star team.
Crowder won the 160-pound weight class in the Region 1 tournament and went on to finish sixth at the state tournament earlier this month. As a member of the Region 1 All-Star team, Crowder helped secure a state title as the Region 1 squad beat out the Region 2 team from Chattanooga, the Region 3 team from Nashville and the Region 4 team from Memphis during the competition on March 7.
Crowder started his wrestling career when he was in kindergarten and has been heavily invested in the sport ever since. He has enjoyed working his way up through the weight classes and competing in many competitions. Crowder was undefeated during his eighth-grade season and plans to continue wrestling at Dobyns-Bennett High School next winter.
