The Kings Mountain, Post 24 of the American Legion hosted a 9/11 Remembrance and Patriot Day Celebration on Monday morning in the amphitheater at Memorial Park Community Center.

The ceremony was conducted in conjunction with the City of Johnson City, the Johnson City Police Department, Johnson City Fire Department and Washington County-Johnson City EMS. The speakers on hand recalled where they were on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, and remembered the bravery of the first responders who ran toward the danger in an effort to save as many lives as possible. Speakers included Johnson City Fire Chief James Stables, Johnson City Chief of Police Mark Sirois, and Chief Dan Wheeley of the Washington County/Johnson City EMS.

A color guard and an honor guard were on hand to help honor the 2,996 people who lost their lives during the attacks 16 years ago. Stables, Sirois and Wheeley laid a wreath in memory of the victims.
