With a new K-8 school being built a few short miles away, Boones Creek Middle School is in the twilight of its existence.
But for those who work and learn at the school on a daily basis, it is still home, and it will be for another year.
So when the weather finally warmed up last week, students from the classrooms of Laura Tidwell and Sarah Pearman poured out onto the school’s front lawn and got busy sprucing up the area around the flagpole. The first step was to rip out some overgrowth, and then the students dug holes and planted bushes and flowers donated by Jason Brickey, a manager at the SiteOne landscaping store located just down the road from the school.
While the students were happy to get out of the classroom and into the bright sunshine, there was plenty of learning going on during the course of the project. The element of teamwork was on full display, but students also learned about plant life cycles and how bugs and insects rely on plants to live.
