Science Hill High School will host a traditional graduation on Friday, June 19 at 7 p.m. in Kermit Tipton Stadium.
The plan was developed by Science Hill administration and reviewed by local health officials, who were comfortable with the plan, provided there are no additional outbreaks of COVID-19 in our area.
Participation in the graduation ceremony is optional, however, every graduate will be recognized on the jumbotron and live stream of the ceremony. Each senior will receive four tickets with all seats being general admission. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. In order to properly social distance, parties will be seated in groups of four and two. It is recommended that families arrive together and sit together as a group.
“It will be a special night under the lights at Kermit Tipton Stadium as we have the pleasure of finally hosting a traditional graduation for the Science Hill Class of 2020,” Johnson City Schools Superintendent Steve Barnett said. “We look forward to bringing the students and families together to honor the Science Hill Class of 2020.”
Science Hill Principal Todd Barnett said that they are excited about welcoming the seniors back to campus and hosting this memorable event.
“During the Class of 2020’s four years on The Hill, they met and overcame every challenge placed in front of them,” Barnett said. “Having this culminating ceremony at the stadium provides a great opportunity to recognize and honor this very successful and well-prepared class in front of their friends and family members.”
Science Hill seniors will be asked to arrive at 6 p.m. and will be provided masks upon entry. Graduates will be required to wear them throughout the ceremony. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to show consideration for fellow attendees, we encourage attendees to arrive wearing personal masks. We also ask that anyone experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19, including cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, and/or loss of taste and smell, do not attend the ceremony.
Graduation practice will be on the morning of Friday, June 19 at 10 a.m. at Kermit Tipton Stadium. More information will be available to students through their school e-mail and in a letter that will be mailed to their home. Graduates should arrive at Science Hill by 6 p.m. and park in the tiered parking area in front of Science Hill. Those being dropped off should do so at the Topper Palace. Upon arrival, graduates will pass through security and move directly to their area designated by the alphabet.
Upon completion of the ceremony, everyone will be asked to leave Kermit Tipton Stadium and return to their vehicles. No one will be allowed on the field after the ceremony. For more information, please visit jcschools.org.
