Ridgeview Elementary kindergarten students recently participated in a hands-on lesson regarding the job of a police officer. School Resource Officer Debra Barkley described a day in the life of a police officer, explained the various tools used as part of her uniform and vehicle and let the children see how the lights and sirens work.

The day represented the culmination of a unit of study on community helpers. Students completed a variety of activities related to the topic including research of public service careers, basic discussion of future career goals and a focus on how community service jobs are essential to our society.
