Local junior golfer wins the state championship

Kara Cretsinger of Jonesborough put together a dominant performance to win a state golf championship in her age group late last month.

Jonesborough’s Kara Cretsinger won the girls 8-11 2023 Micro Division of the Tennessee Sneds Tour season-ending championship on July 22-23. Kara dominated the field with a score of +12 (120) over four rounds of golf, easily outpacing the runner-up by 17 shots.

Every year The Little Course at Golf House Tennessee hosts the Aspen Grove Challenge in Franklin, TN. This is the season-ending championship for their micro division, and participants are selected from throughout the state of Tennessee. The tournament selection committee only selects the top nine girl golfers based on the player’s scores relative to par from across the state. Kara was ranked #1 going into the tournament and held the #1 spot throughout from start to finish.

Besides winning the championship, Kara has had an amazing season. She is ranked #1 within the Sneds Tour among all age divisions with the most wins at 10. She has achieved this accomplishment of most wins for the past three years. Along with her individual accolades, Kara’s Junior League All-Star team won the Junior League Tennessee State Championship in 2022.

Kara is 11 years old and will be a sixth-grader at Boones Creek Elementary this coming school year. She is coached by Euggie Jones and her dad, Keith Cretsinger.

She will be competing in the sub-regional Drive, Chip, and Putt competition in Cleveland, TN on July 30. She made it to Quail Hollow Regional Qualifying event in 2022, which is one step away from competing at the Masters for the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship.

The Sneds Tour is named after Brandt Snedeker a PGA professional golfer and Vanderbilt alumni. The Sneds Tour is sponsored by Brandt and Mandy Snedeker Foundation and is promoted by the Tennessee Golf Foundation in cooperation with Tennessee’s PGA Professionals and the Tennessee Golf Association and is Tennessee’s premier golf league for juniors.
