Several of our local high school athletes finished with a flourish at the annual Spring Fling state championship events held in Murfreesboro.
On the heels of leading the Science Hill girls’ tennis team to a state title, Leah McBride and Josi Reid teamed up to win the girls’ individual doubles championship by beating a duo from Murfreesboro Central Magnet 6-1, 6-3. Meanwhile, University High’s tandem of Graham Mefford and Kyrylo Hnatsuko brought home the state title in the boys’ individual doubles event.
David Crockett thrower Adrian Wynn followed up a state title in the discus with a fifth-place finish in the shot-put. University High freshman Dalencia Kittrell finished third in the girls’ 400-meter run and UH senior Melina Summery finished fourth in the 3200.
The UH boys’ 4×400 relay team – manned by Andreas Papas, Isaac Mussard, Braden Williams and Harry Harker – also scored a fourth-place finish.
