Liberty Bell girls win state title, boys finish second

The Liberty Bell girls brought home their third state championship in the past four seasons on Saturday by outlasting the competition at the TMSAA State Track & Field Championships.

The Liberty Bell girls’ track & field team won the team title at the TMSAA State Track & Field Championships over the weekend while the boys took home second place.

The Lady Patriots edged out Murfreesboro Oakland to capture their third state title in the last four seasons (there was no spring track competition in 2020). Liberty Bell’s 4×400 relay team won a state championship with a time of 4:21.16 recorded by Ella Smith, Abigail Hyatt, Lauren Yobst and Niyah Jones. Emmie Gullett, Addison Hight, Kaitlyn Tilson and Emma Rhea all turned in strong performances to help Liberty Bell bring home the team championship.

Liberty Bell’s boys broke four school records en route to a runner-up finish in the team competition at the state meet.

Meanwhile, the boys broke four school records en route to a runner-up finish in the team standings. Liberty Bell’s 4×400 relay team won a state championship and broke a school record with their time of 3:50.02. Nate Powell, Steven Famoyin, Brock Wilhjelm and Lamarkus Dunn were the members of the state championship relay squad.

Nolan McDonald locked up a third-place finish in the discus, and his throw of 135’.5” was a new school record. Lamarkus Dunn finished second in the 400m, and his time of 52.95 was a new school record as well. Nate Powell also set a school record of 16.86 in the 110m hurdles, good enough for a runner-up finish.

The team of Jouji Pederson, William Edmisten, Famoyin and Dunn also landed a spot on the podium with a seventh-place finish in the 4×200.
