The Science Hill Lady Hilltoppers and the University High Bucs both punched their tickets to the upcoming TSSAA state basketball tournament.

The Lady ‘Toppers overcame some poor foul shooting thanks to a tremendous effort by the duo of Alasia Smith and Jelia Greenlee, who combined to score 46 points in Science Hill’s 55-52 Class AAA sectional win over Maryville on Saturday night. On Monday, University High’s boys used a stingy defensive effort to turn back Harriman 45-33 in a Class A sectional contest.

Science Hill’s girls missed a boatload of free throws down the stretch, but they would not be denied their first trip to Murfreesboro in six years. Smith led Science Hill (31-3) with 27 points while Greenlee added 19. Erin Egerbrecht hit two foul shots with 15 seconds left to provide the final margin of victory.

Meanwhile, University High (29-5) shut down Harriman’s offense en route to a dominant victory. Kaleb Meredith led the Bucs with 10 points.
