Jonesborough Days Parade returns after one-year hiatus

Jonesborough Days was one of many traditions folks missed last year during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Judging by the size of the crowd lining Jonesborough’s historic Main Street on Saturday morning, absence only made the heart grow fonder for the annual celebration, which was kicked off with a patriotic parade. The crowd arrived early and reveled in a steady stream of floats draped in red, white and blue.

Uncle Sam stood particularly tall this year – thanks to a pair of stilts – and rightfully so. There was plenty to celebrate. Aside from observing our nation’s birthday, this year Independence Day also served as a celebration of our country’s growing independence from a global pandemic that took the lives of so many while forcing us all to live in various states of social distance for over a year.

On top of all that, Jonesborough Days celebrated its 50th anniversary this past weekend. Always a welcome mid-summer distraction, the event has never felt as vital as it did this time around.
