A heartwarming tradition carried on this holiday season as the Kiwanis Club and Ashley Academy joined forces to collect and sort donations for kids in need.

Each year, Johnson City’s Kiwanis Club collects socks, pajamas and other essential items for kids in the Johnson City Schools’ Homeless Student Program, the Isaiah House and other children in the community. From there, Ashley Academy students lend a hand sorting those items for distribution.

“The Kiwanis just tries to be the conduit between the public that wants to be generous and the people who need the help, and Ashley Academy is doing the same thing in helping move the merchandise to the people who need it,” said Roger Cox, Secretary of the Johnson City Kiwanis Club.

Collecting items was a tall task this year with COVID-19 restrictions in place, but Cox praised the outpouring of support from the public.

“It was a big challenge this year, but again, the public was very generous,” he said.
