One of the most entertaining and popular church plays, “Slabtown District Convention.” will be presented Saturday, August 12, at Grace Temple Eternal Life Center at 6 p.m.

All proceeds will go to the Historically African-American West Lawn Cemetery which was vandalized earlier this year and will be used to secure fencing.

“Slabtown District Convention” is filled with some thigh-slapping, toe- tapping laughter.  When the cast of ladies and two gentlemen meet up they take church meetings to another level in the one-act play complete with hymns and spirituals by the harmonic “Happy Hollow Choir”. The popular comedic church play was written by Nannie H. Burroughs in the early twenties but with principles that still hold true today.

The event is performed by “AGH” Performing Arts Group and directors are Mary Alexander, Debbie Grey and Phedelma Hancock.

Grace Temple Church Eternal Life Center located at 208 Garden Drive. Tickets may be purchased at Money Services at Central Shopping Center located at 1111 North Roan Street; Johnson City, TN.
