The energy was undeniable inside the MiniDome on the campus of ETSU last week as athletes from around our area gathered to compete in the Special Olympics.

The event started Thursday morning with a torch run from City Hall to the floor of the Dome, where athlete Donnie Stove lit the torch to officially kick off the games.  More than 600 athletes participated in Track & Field events last Thursday and Friday.

Both days featured an opening ceremony, which started with a parade of athletes. Friday’s ceremony featured a stirring rendition of the National Anthem by Science Hill’s Kyle Marshall.
