    The celebration will begin at 7 p.m. at the Millennium Center.

    Dr. Brian Noland, ETSU president, will provide remarks, and a select group of distinguished ETSU alumni and friends will be honored. This year’s award recipients include Dr. Flora Joy (’63 and ’67), retired ETSU professor and founder of the university’s renowned Storytelling Program, Outstanding Alumna, and Dr. Scott Lillibridge (’77), senior medical advisor for the International Medical Corps, Outstanding Alumnus. Awards of Honor will be presented to retired ETSU photographer Larry D. Smith (’78) and Julie “Jules” Wortman (’89). Honorary Alumni status will be given to A.R. Freddy and Susan E. Gonzalez of Chaparral Buick GMC of Johnson City and ETSU men’s golf coach Fred Warren.

    Special recognition will also be given to the reunion class of 1969 and other members of the university’s Golden Fifties Club.

    Tickets are $50 per person and may be reserved online at www.etsualumni.org or by calling the ETSU Alumni Office at 423-439-4218. The price includes sales tax, and tickets are non-refundable.

    The Texas Tenors bring their breathtaking vocals, humor and a touch of cowboy charm to create an unforgettable live show at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center on Saturday, May 4th at 7:30 p.m.

    The Texas Tenors, featuring JC Fisher, Marcus Collins and John Hagen, have performed for over 100 million people around the world.

    The Texas Tenors are celebrating 10 years together by launching their “10th Anniversary Tour” for the 2019-2020 season.

    Only $30 balcony seats are available. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased online at NPACgreeneville.com, in person at the NPAC box office, or by calling 423-638-1679. NPAC offers online seat selection with no processing or delivery fees. There is an additional $1.50 ticketing fee per ticket regardless of purchase method.     The next Sew Crazy Meeting is set for Saturday, May 18th, from 10:00am - 2:00 pm. The group will meet at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 201 E. Watauga Ave., Johnson City.  The group will be working on tote bags for the Gray Library for their childrens' program. There is no cost to attend this meeting; sewing materials and notions are supplied. We welcome all sewers, experienced and those that are new to sewing.

    Civic Chorale to conclude season on May 18

    The Civic Chorale will present its final concert of the 2018-19 season on Saturday, May 18 at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 105 South Boone Street, Johnson City.

    The concert, entitled “Sing Lustily!,” will not only feature works by the choir, but will also showcase the choir’s individual talents through a selection of solos and small group performances. There is a $10 suggested donation at the door.

    The Civic Chorale, founded in 1973, is the region’s premiere auditioned volunteer adult chorus. Dr. Caldwell is also the director of choral studies at Mars Hill University in Mars Hill, North Carolina.

    Students from the Science Hill Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy will be hosting a charity basketball game on May 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. inside Science Hill’s new gym. The contest will be between Johnson City Schools’ teachers and Johnson City First Responders. The entry fee is $3 with all proceeds going to support the Johnson City Homeless Education Program.

    Senior Services at Memorial Park Community Center, 510 Bert St., is hosting two classes for individuals who want to learn how to transfer photos from a camera or phone to a flash drive. The classes will be held 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22.

    Cost is $5 per session. Register in person at MPCC. Seating is limited. Participants should bring a working camera or phone, the cable and/or cords that go with it, and a flash drive.

    Susan Kohl, author of Getting Attention: Leading-Edge Lessons in Publicity and Marketing (Butterworth-Heinemann), and the Holiday Inn, of Johnson City, present a free, 90-minute workshop on “PR and Marketing on a Shoestring Budget,” on Wednesday, May 22nd, at 11:00. The event will be held at 101 W. Springbrook Drive, in Johnson City.
