    Tennessee’s Oldest Town will celebrate the 49th Annual Jonesborough Days Festival July 4th through July 6th. Family activities, an exciting music line-up, handmade local crafts, patriotic parade, fireworks, storytelling and much more are scheduled for the holiday weekend.

    he 2019 Jonesborough Days Festival will begin Thursday, July 4th at 10 a.m. with the Parade kicking off the festivities. Activities, music, contests and more will continue throughout the weekend each day from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. The Low Country Shrimp Boil will take place on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. and the event wraps up with the annual fireworks display on Saturday at 10 p.m.

    Admission to the festival is free and open to the public.

    Pepsico Beverages North America of Johnson City and the City of Johnson City will sponsor the 34th. Annual Independence Day Fireworks Celebration on the grounds of Freedom Hall Civic Center on Thursday, July 4th.  Everyone is invited to join in the festivities.  Since several thousand people attend the event each year, an early arrival is strongly encouraged.  

    There will not be a rain date for this event.  The fireworks time could be delayed if there is inclement weather that evening.  Visitors may be moved inside the Freedom Hall arena temporarily in the event of severe weather.

    MASS TRANSIT SERVICES
     Coolers and lawn chairs will be allowed on the FREE Johnson City Transit buses; charcoal grills or any other incendiary devices will not be allowed on the buses. Only "service" animals will be allowed on the buses - no household pets. Lift-equipped buses for the handicapped will be available both pick-up sites.
     
     
    PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PATRONS
    Lift-equipped buses will be available at ETSU and Winged Deer Park to bring physically challenged patrons to the event. Handicapped parking passes and instructions may be obtained by calling Freedom Hall no later than Tuesday, July 3rd  at 461-4884 weekdays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Portable restroom facilities for the physically challenged will be located on-site
     
     
    PERSONAL VEHICLES AND PROPERTY
    Patrons driving personal vehicles to Freedom Hall are encouraged to remember to leave all valuables (cellular telephones, laptop computers, money, jewelry, purses, wallets, CDs, shopping bags, etc.) at home. Any valuables left in personal vehicles should not be left in plain sight and vehicles should remain locked at all times.

    Shooter Band will perform Friday, July 5, and veterans will be admitted free.

    Registration is underway for a volleyball camp for girls ages 10-14. The camp will be held in the Liberty Bell gymnasium from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, July 16-Friday, July 19.

    Attendees will participate in drills and games to teach them the fundamentals of volleyball. Cost is $40 per participant. Register through July 16 online at myjcparks.org or in person at the Winged Deer Athletic Office, 4137 Bristol Highway.

  • 4th Annual Area 3 Special Olympics Benefit Golf Tournament

    Officers of the Johnson City Police Department will host the 4th Annual Area 3 Special Olympics Benefit Golf Tournament at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 27. Teams from across the region will gather at Elizabethton Golf Course to play in the select-shot tournament.

    Community members may register individually or as a team. Cost is $50 per player or $200 per team. Prizes will be awarded for the first-, second-, and third-place teams in two flights as well as for the closest to the pin on all par-3 holes. Long drive contests (women, men and seniors) will also be held. Door prizes will be given away.

    Local businesses may sponsor individual holes for $50 each. Sponsorship includes a yard sign at the sponsored hole.

    All funds raised will stay in Tennessee’s Area 3 to support Special Olympics athletes in Washington, Carter, Unicoi and Johnson counties.
