    The choral ensembles of East Tennessee State University’s Department of Music will open their fall concert season with a “Choral Collage” on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church.

    The concert will feature a wide range of styles, from Renaissance to contemporary.

    Ensembles performing during the program are the ETSU Chorale and Belles women’s choir, conducted by Dr. Matthew Potterton, chair of the Department of Music and director of choral activities, along with the BucsWorth men’s choir and Greyscale, conducted by Dr. Alan Stevens, associate director of choral activities.

    Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Munsey Church is located at 201 E. Market St. in downtown Johnson City.

  • Sew Crazy Meeting

    The next Sew Crazy Meeting is set for Saturday, October 19th, from 10:00am - 2:00 pm.  The group will meet at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 201 E. Watauga Ave., Johnson City. 

    The group will be will be working on making pajama bottoms to benefit the Isaiah 117 House. This home (now homes, with more to come) serves to fill a gap for children that have been removed from their homes and are awaiting a placement in a foster home.  A lot of them arrive with nothing and those at Isaiah house provide them with clean clothes, warm meal and safe clean bed. 

    There is no cost to attend this meeting; sewing materials and notions are supplied. Bring your machines, patterns will be provided.  We welcome all sewers, experienced and those that are new to sewing.

    On Monday, October 28 at 7 p.m., the Jonesborough Yarn Exchange Radio Show’s performance will celebrate the Halloween season. This production will be filled with mysterious stories and eerie legends from the region.

    True accounts of the macabre, straight from the pages of local history and lore include the tale of the moving China Doll on Cherokee Road, the Wampus Cat, the ghost baby of Rockvale and many more.

    Also featured is another kind of harrowing story, that of surviving survival school in preparation for the Vietnam War.

    Joining the cast this month as musical guests are the David Crockett High School Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Kelly Sams Davenport. This will be the fourth year the group has performed as a music guest and they will be singing a collection of songs to fit in with the Halloween theme.
