The University High girls’ soccer team broke a five-year drought by beating Chuckey Doak last Thursday night to win the District 1-A tournament. The win broke a streak of five straight district titles for Chuckey Doak.

Carmen Ellis has a pair of goals and Blake Johnson scored another to help the University High girls’ soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Chuckey Doak in the championship game of the District 1-A soccer tournament last Thursday.

The district title was the first for University High since 2016. Chuckey Doak had won the last five district tournament championships before the Lady Bucs broke through last week.

Meanwhile, the Science Hill Lady Hilltoppers continued their dominance of District 1-AAA by capturing their fourth straight district tournament championship. Megan Burleson scored a pair of goals to capture the tournament MVP award and Science Hill topped rival Dobyns-Bennett 4-0.

Burleson scored the middle two goals for Science Hill. Hannah Dawson scored the first goal of the game for the Lady Hilltoppers while Elliott Riggs capped the scoring on a penalty kick in the second half.
