Local Vietnam veterans gathered at the Johnson City/Washington County Veterans Memorial last Tuesday for a Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony hosted by the American Legion Kings Mountain Post 24.

The ceremony offered veterans an opportunity to reflect on their service and honor their brothers in arms who lost their lives in action or never returned. Allen Jackson read the names of the 58 service members from Washington County who were killed in Vietnam while Gary McAlister rang a bell as each name was read.

During the proceedings, prisoners of war and those missing in action were remembered along with all those who died in the conflict. Members of the ETSU ROTC program participated in the event and Lieutenant General (Ret.) Ron Hite was the keynote speaker at the event.
