Lady Bucs take on first-round foe Forrest at 5 p.m. Eastern

University High begins its quest for a state Class A softball title in minutes as they take on Forrest in the opening game of a double-elimination, eight-team tournament.

Third-year coach Keith Jeffers had one main message going in for a team he says is strong in all facets of the game: “Stay relaxed and have fun.”

“There are so few high school girls that get to do this,” Jeffers said. “It should be an awesome experience.”

Four senior starters are visiting the Spring Fling for the third straight year. Jeffers hopes the Lady Bucs can get deeper into the bracket than they did last year, when they had two one-run losses sandwiched around one win.

“From top to bottom they are pretty balanced this year,” Jeffers said. “If we struggle hitting, the pitchers have done such a good job we’ve kept the other team from scoring a lot.”

Stay tuned for updates from tonight’s game against Forrest.
