Science Hill’s football team rolled to a 42-14 road win on Friday night to move a step closer toward claiming a share of the Region 1-6A title.

The Hilltoppers (7-2, 4-1) got a sterling effort from quarterback Jaylan Adams – who accounted for five touchdowns – as well as a dominant performance by the defense, which held Morristown West to 121 yards of total offense and 11 first downs. Seven of those first downs and a majority of the yardage came on the Trojans’ final drive of the game with the game well in hand.

Adams ran for three scores, threw for two more and finished with 214 yards of total offense to bring his career total to 4,629 yards and counting. Arthur James led Science Hill with 11 tackles while Josh Kota recorded 10, notching his second consecutive game with double-digit tackles.

In other action, Noah Shelton accounted for three touchdowns in Daniel Boone’s 35-7 win over Cocke County. Mason Mounger also had a TD run for the Trailblazers (5-2, 4-0), who remained atop the Region 1-5A standings.

David Crockett ended a tumultuous week with a 35-13 loss to Tennessee High, which dropped Crockett (5-3, 3-1) out of a first-place tie in Region 1-5A. Cade Larkins threw for 300 yards while Zeb Holland (150) and Donta Hackler (102) each had over 100 receiving yards.

On Saturday, Daniel Boone’s boys cross country team finished second in the Trailblazer Invitational. Matt Huff was the top finisher for the Trailblazers. University High runner Porter Bradley finished ninth in the boys’ competition.

In the girls’ competition, David Crockett finished second behind Dobyns-Bennett. Breanna Roy paced the Lady Pioneers with a runner-up finish.
