Science Hill’s Jenna Hutchins wrapped up a sensational freshman campaign last week by winning a pair of state titles at the TSSAA large school state championship meet in Murfreesboro.

Hutchins edged out Dobyns-Bennett’s Sasha Neglia to win the 1600-meter title before also capturing gold in the 800. The two state titles wrap up a year that saw Hutchins win the state cross country championship and earn All-American honors with a top-10 finish at the Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego.

Last week, Hutchins struck gold by holding off the runner-up Neglia by less than a tenth of a second as she crossed the finish line with a time of 5:00.09.

Neglia went on to win the 3200 by over four seconds. Hutchins, meanwhile, used a late push in the 800 to claim victory with a time of 2:13.24.
