Science Hill girls earn Region 1-AAA championship

It’s a truism in soccer that it’s never easy to beat a team three times in a season. The Lady Vikings of Tennessee High had beaten Science Hill in their two previous matches this season, and Thursday night in Bristol, the Hilltoppers proved that truism to be accurate, shutting down their hosts, 3-1, to win the Region 1-AAA championship. Emma Hecht scored the first goal for Science Hill and Devin Fry scored the other two.

Unfortunately for the Hilltoppers, they could not keep the momentum of the win over Tennessee High. They fell to Maryville 1-0 Saturday in the sectional round in Johnson City, ending their season with a 13-9-1 record.

Science Hill goalkeeper Taylor Kelly came within an inch of blocking what would be the sectional game’s only goal.
