The Washington, Carter, Unicoi and Sullivan Counties Annual 4-H Multi-County 4-H Poultry Show & Sale was held August 5th at the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray, Tn. Twenty-nine 4-H’ers participated this year by returning five-of their full-grown pullets to the auction. Our auctioneer was Dwight Hunt. All 4-H’ers received ribbons, prize money, and a refund on the cost of their chick for their efforts in the chick chain project and champions, a trophy. Each county selected a Grand and Reserve Champion. The Grand Champion from Carter, Lacey Smith, and Sullivan County was Daphne Lucas, Unicoi Champion was Miley Hopson and Washington County’s Grand Champion was Bradley Gouge. Reserve Champions were Hannah Monroe, Carter, Keira Cross, Sullivan, Grace Ann Clark, Unicoi with Allie Harrison receiving Reserved Champion for Washington. Others participating include: Seth Bauer, Braylon & Brogen Campbell, Carabeth Chrisawn, Travis Royston, Matthew Wilson, Annie Clendenin, Karly King, Sarah & Abigail Melinsky, Avery Padgett, Ian Steptoe, Emma Van Bremen, Libby VanBuren, Callie Collette, Hannah Harris, Sarah Hill, Katie Lowe, Isaac Nuckols, Jackson Utsman and Nora Walters. The 4-H Chick Chain/Pullet Project teaches responsibility, as well as, how to raise pullets. The University of Tennessee Extension and 4-H offers its program to all eligible persons.
