Looking Back at 2019 and Ahead to 2020

For those of us who call Johnson City home, 2019 was a banner year.

The city observed its 150th anniversary during a year-long celebration that culminated with an event in King Commons on Dec. 1, the date Johnson City received its charter in 1869. During the past year, citizens of Johnson City have had the opportunity to take a closer look at the city’s history, and most of it was contained in photos and accounts that were preserved in newsprint.

Much has changed in our industry over the years, but community newspapers remain vital for those looking to stay up to date with the latest local news. Here at the Johnson City News & Neighbor, we take great joy in passing along the good news that takes place in our community on a daily basis.

This past year, our company was honored with three top awards, including a pair of second-place honors, in a newspaper competition that featured 763 entries from across America and Canada. The awards were announced during a ceremony in Philadelphia in September.

We owe our success to those in our community who do the good deeds and accomplish the great feats that fill the pages of our publication each week. Good news may seem like a rare commodity, but we see it unfolding around us every day. That speaks well of the place we call home.

Thank you for taking the time to read our newspaper each week, and here’s to a great 2020!
