Looking back at 2015

East Tennessee State University’s football team

finally took the field. The Chamber of Commerce hit the century mark. The community got a new animal shelter, a new park and a continued revitalization of downtown. The newly minted Tweetsie Trail proved to be even more of a community attraction than anyone may have imagined. Area health care consumers – that’s you, me and everyone we know – got news that the area’s two main hospital systems want to merge.

Thanks to these newsmaking events and many more, 2015 was a year worth remembering, and The Johnson City News & Neighbor – which, incidentally, was judged second-best in the nation for general excellence – was there to capture and chronicle its highlights in words and images. You can enjoy a retrospective of some of the year’s best sports photos on pages 8 and 9 of this week’s paper, and yet another update on issues surrounding the proposed hospital merger on page 5.

We appreciate your readership and invite you to stay with us, through our weekly delivery and at jcnewsandneighbor.com and our Facebook page, as we cover the community in what is sure to be a 2016 full of newsworthy stories. We’ll also continue doing what we’re known for best: finding good news about interesting people in our community and bringing it to your doorstep every week.
