Johnson City Board of Education selects new Superintendent

The Johnson City Board of Education met on Wednesday afternoon and decided to extend the job offer of Superintendent to Dr. Steve Barnett. Barnett is currently the principal at Towne Acres Elementary, where he has served for over a decade. He will replace Dr. Richard Bales, whose retirement is set for July 1.

A committee is about to meet to discuss the salary they will offer Dr. Barnett and an official offer will be confirmed by the BOE during their April 3 meeting. Dr. Bales currently receives a base salary of $157,896 — his starting salary was $110,000 — and a $12,000 car incentive and $18,000 towards his annuity. Barnett received a vote from all seven board members, the second place finisher — LaDonna McFall — received four votes.
