The crack of the bat, smack of the ball against leather gloves and cries of the umpires were welcome sounds Sunday at Metro Kiwanis Park – as welcome as the mild weather and sunshine that accompanied a high school softball “Play Day” at the park that drew a good turnout of local and regional teams. Science Hill, Daniel Boone and University high schools were all represented. Teams played 75-minute timed games that won’t count on the schedule. Photos show Science Hill playing Walker Valley and Boone playing Unicoi County.
