A lack of size led to a short week at the Arby’s Classic for Science Hill.
With big man Tate Wheeler sidelined after dislocating his jaw, the Hilltoppers didn’t have enough length in their lineup to counteract a pair of premier opponents from outside the area. Science Hill dropped its opener to Columbia (Ga.) 74-44 last Tuesday to fall into the losers’ bracket where a 55-40 setback to Fern Creek (Ky.) spelled elimination.
In the opener, Columbia’s Josh Taylor ran roughshod over the ‘Toppers. The 6-foot-8 phenom, who has already captured the attention of several ACC and SEC schools, scored 13 points, grabbed 21 rebounds, blocked seven shots and snagged two steals in the win over Science Hill. David Bryant led the Hilltoppers with nine points.
On Thursday morning, Science Hill dropped its fourth game in a row to the Tigers from Louisville, Kentucky. Science Hill committed 24 turnovers, shot just 34 percent from the field and was outscored 36-14 in the paint in the loss.
Jerriah Love led the way for Science Hill with 14 points while Bryant added 11.
