The Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians matched donations made by members of the Rotary Club of Johnson City, which allowed every single inpatient veteran at the Mountain Home VA to receive one box of Girl Scout Cookies. Judie Camak of the Rotary Club and Haowei Tong of the Girls Scouts recently presented the cookies to representatives from the VA.
“I’ve been connected with Girl Scouts all my life, and as a Girl Scout and member of DAR, I’ve gotten the inspiration to help the veterans,” Camak said.
While COVID-19 has halted many in-person activities, the Girl Scouts are finding ways to remain active. Some troops are meeting virtually while others are meeting outdoors while adhering to social distancing recommendations. In addition to donating cookies to the VA, local Girl Scouts have also donated cookies to several local non-profits and schools.
