Eleven young ladies from Gray are ready to take on the world.
Daniel Boone’s 12-and-under softball team captured the Southeast Regional championship on Monday by beating a team from Salisbury, North Carolina, 4-3 to earn an automatic berth into next week’s Little League Softball World Series, which will be held in Portland, Oregon.
Kyleigh Bacon’s inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 3-3 tie and wound up producing the game-winning run. Riley Croley, Josie Jenkins and Kayleigh Quesinberry also came through with RBI hits for Boone in the title game. Boone’s team is coached by Lori Jenkins. Her assistants are Freddie Saul and Steven Croley.
The World Series will be held from Aug 8 through Aug. 15. The girls from Gray will fly to Oregon later this week before facing teams from Pennsylvania, Washington, Canada and the Czech Republic in pool play. Those wishing to follow the action can stream the games on ESPN+.
