Daniel Boone’s volleyball team won a five-set thriller over Dobyns-Bennett last Thursday evening to capture the District 1-AAA tournament championship. McKenna Dietz earned MVP honors for the Lady Trailblazers.

The Lady Trailblazers rallied to beat Dobyns-Bennett 23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-11 in the District 1-AAA championship match last Thursday night at Volunteer High School in Church Hill. The win gave Boone its first district volleyball title in over 20 years.

McKenna Dietz was named the tournament MVP, and her teammates Jaycie Jenkins, Greyson Stevens and Mackenzie Sweigart also earned spots on the all-tournament team.

Dobyns-Bennett eliminated Science Hill in five sets to reach the title match. Both the Lady Trailblazers and the Lady Indians earned spots in this week’s Region 1-AAA tournament.

Science Hill was represented on the all-tournament team by Ella Gay and Loren Grindstaff.

The regular-season all-conference team was also unveiled last week. Boone’s Jenkins was named the MVP for the regular season while Dietz was named the setter of the year. Grindstaff and Claire Thomas represented Science Hill on the first team.
