Folks came out in droves recently to honor a World War II veteran on her 100th birthday.

A line of vehicles stretched out for a good quarter mile on Big Limestone Road before the parade made its way up John M. Reed Nursing Home Road to wish Navy Veteran Dolores Mielnicki the best on her 100th birthday. Mielnicki served as a radioman
during World War II, sending and receiving messages in Morse code.

Mielnicki received a pair of pins honoring her service as well as gifts from Allen Jackson of the Kings Mountain American Legion Post No. 24 and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Members of the community decorated their cars and participated in a drive-by parade to honor Mielnicki, who served in the Navy during the war.
