Thanks to the generosity of individuals, businesses and civic organizations, the Christmas season has been a bit brighter for the youngsters spending the holidays at Niswonger Children’s Hospital.

Once upon a time, Joshua Adcock put smiles on the faces of everyone who crossed his path at the children’s hospital. Thanks to his family, friends and several local businesses, Joshua’s memory lives on in the form of the handmade blankets, stuffed animals, gift cards and several other items that are donated to patients and their families each year. Joshua’s mother Tammy, father Terry and brother Jake were on hand last Thursday to deliver the items and reflect on Joshua’s life, which was short on years but long on joy.

Last Friday Kenneth Melton Jr. and his family rolled in from Avery County, North Carolina with the hospital’s largest toy donation of the year. Melton and his family collect toys and money for the kids at the children’s hospital, and their efforts are so successful it takes an 18-wheeler to make the delivery.
