Colorful wilderness

Rocky Fork, Tennessee’s newest state park in a watershed above Unicoi County’s Flag Pond, was alive with late summer activity in its upper reaches Saturday. The park is primitive and undeveloped and offers 2,036 acres of solitude and beauty, roughly 35 minutes from Johnson City. Top, a small bee zeroes in on the scarlet petals of a bee balm blossom; right, a moth digs its proboscis into a sunflower. Learn more at tnstateparks.com/parks/about/rocky≠fork.
