Daniel Boone’s volleyball team went on the road in the sectionals last week and knocked off Farragut to earn the program’s first trip to the state tournament since 1998.
The Lady Trailblazers outlasted Farragut in five sets – 23-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-19, 15-13 – to punch their ticket to Murfreesboro. Boone won the District 1-AAA tournament title before falling to Dobyns-Bennett in the regional championship, which sent Boone on the road for a do-or-die matchup against the powerful Lady Admirals.
The Lady Trailblazers went to four straight state tournaments between 1995 and 1998 in the Class A/AA classification, but this is Boone’s first-ever trip to state in the larger Class AAA division. McKenna Dietz charted 49 digs and 28 assists in the historic victory over Farragut while Jaycie Jenkins and Greyson Stevens slammed home 17 kills apiece.
