The queen and her court, bejeweled dresses dazzling in the evening sun; sabres held ramrod straight before the focused faces of cadets; the visible and audible precision of a marching band; a float with togas, cheerleaders smiling and stands packed with young fans cheering on their classmates: Science Hill’s 2015 Homecoming Friday night had all the right ingredients.
Raucous and ready, students filled the stands as members of the 2-0 Toppers burst from the school’s new fieldhouse and onto the turf of Steve Spurrier Field at Kermit Tipton Stadium. The team upheld its end of the bargain, not letting down Homecoming Queen Ally Parks or any of the thousands of others in attendance.
A ferocious defense shut down Erwin (N.C.) and dual-threat senior quarterback Justin Bedard ran and passed the Toppers to a 36-6 halftime lead. The Toppers cruised from there to a 43-19 victory (see page 12-13).
