Six Veterans Affairs Police Officers were honored in a ceremony Sept. 30 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for responding to a call in early September that could have resulted in potential harm to a Veteran and others around him. The Officers remained calm and professional in the line of duty, preventing tragedy and getting the Veteran needed medical care.

The officers recognized were: Sergeant Jeremy W. Paulins, Sergeant Ernest F. King, Officer Jesse R. Griggs, Officer Joseph L. Hartman, Officer Chase Hobson, and Officer Derik G. Stout.

Cynthia Breyfogle, director of the VA Mid-South Health Network, presented a Certificate of Commendation signed by Executive in Charge, Veterans Health Administration, Dr. Richard Stone. Also present were Medical Center Director Dean Borsos and Associate Director Dr. Colleen Noe, along with families of the officers.

At the ceremony, Borsos said the officers were “everyday heroes” who were receiving recognition that was rightly deserved. Breyfogle thanked the officers for being an important part of the team and for their dedication to taking care of Veterans every day.
