Sunday’s “Party in the Park” at Founder’s Park was more significant than might first be imagined. Yes, the Johnson City Police Department wanted to show appreciation to the community and celebrate the good will and ongoing relationships between the police and the city’s communities that have come out of a two-year-old “community roundtable” process. But it’s that process, and the pressing forward for continued dialogue, partnership and harmony, that help the police and the city’s communities remain on positive terms even as far too many cities nationwide experience the opposite.
