Science Hill’s young wrestling team held its own while hosting the Tony Farrace Duals Saturday at the old Science Hill gymnasium, Coach Jimmy Miller said.

The team made the winners’ bracket elimination round in the eight-team tournament after going 2-1 in the pool round. The Toppers defeated Jones County (Ga.) 42-28 in their first pool match, then fell to eventual runner-up Henry Clay (Ky.) 42-30 before rebounding to defeat Alcoa 47-24.

That put the team second in its pool, so Science Hill faced Alabama’s Arab High School in the winner’s bracket semifinal. Arab handled the ‘Toppers 52-13 on its way to a third consecutive Farrace championship.

One of the few Topper wins in the Arab match came from senior 220-pounder Hunter Bagley, who was the only Science Hill wrestler to go 5-0 on the day. Bagley already has two state tournament individual appearances to his credit.

Following the Arab match, Science Hill lost the third-place match against Independence, a Nashville school, by a score of 48-27. Arab defeated Henry Clay in the championship match.
