The Salvation Army of Johnson City held its annual Souper Bowl for the Hungry luncheon last Friday at the Holiday Inn. A large group showed up to hear Les Stekel, formerly and NFL coach and president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, pass along some words of wisdom. PHOTOS BY DAVE ONGIE
Les Stekel coached in a pair of Super Bowls during his long coaching career, helping the New England Patriots and the Tennessee Titans reach the championship game. Stekel also spent 30 years in the Marines and served in Vietnam.
On the heels of a banner debut season, ETSU football coach Randy Sanders offered some remarks during the luncheon.
Kasey Marler served as the master of ceremonies for the event, which traditionally raises around $25,000 for the local chapter of the Salvation Army.
