Past honored, future celebrated at Science Hill homecoming

The head ball coach (alum Steve Spurrier) and a barrier-breaking ball coach (Paul Christman) were among the honorees at Friday’s Science Hill High School homecoming. See game photos from Science Hill’s 19-14 comeback win on page 13. Spurrier (top left) enjoyed a moment with the referees, while Christman’s memory (bottom right) is enshrined in a new monument built of bricks from Langston, Johnson City’s former all-black high school that closed for integration in 1965. Christman became Science Hill’s first African-American football coach. There was plenty of standard homecoming fare as well, from the royal court to ROTC standard-bearers. And the home fans made time and space for the visitors from Daniel Boone to honor the memory of classmate Kaylee Rabun, a volleyball player who died in a recent

car accident. Photos by Robert Kell, creativestoryvisuals.com
